Day 1: The Torch-bearer’s Journey ends
The first events of today were the opening ceremonies, in which we watched the trying journey of the torch-bearer. Through suffering and great trials he bore the torch, never straying from the path or giving up. Finally his path lead him here, where he at last lit the flame.
We were introduced to the two teams that will be competing: The Cascadian Team and the Skandalnavian team (with a country name like that, it’s no surprise that they look like a tough crowd).
But that’s not all that happened during the day…

Everybody loves the Happy song

The athletes face each other head on (and…one councilor…)

The balloon toss. Always a favorite pastime.

Report from the field:
It seems as if Scandalnavia is determined to win everything. They’ve taken the early lead in the race for the medals. Stay tuned tonight for an update.

I wondered how we could even compete with last year’s Base Camp, but somehow, you have outdone yourselves, again! Opening ceremony was soooo cool; Dan, you have a future in acting! Tim, THE FOUNTAIN!!!! WOW! I feel privelidged to be a part of it all, showing that people who love the Lord really can be fun and exicting while seriously introducing Him to these children… Thank you to all the parents who allow us to enjoy the Lord with your children!

The opening ceremonies were fantastic. Much more emotionally charged than I expected. Ben and Matthew had a great time. They are so excited to go back tomorrow to see what will happen next. They are really grasping what is being taught. Thank you so much Councilors.
